The Affordable Care Act and the Health Insurance Marketplaces
No. You don’t need to do anything if you have Equity-League coverage earned through employment, or our Medicare Supplemental coverage.
You can choose to purchase coverage from the Marketplace for your area at any time. However, if you qualify for our coverage, you will not be eligible for a subsidy to purchase coverage from the Marketplace.
When you apply for Marketplace coverage, you must estimate your annual household income. If your estimated income is less than four times the Federal Poverty Level based upon the size of your household, you may qualify for the federal subsidy.
If you do qualify and receive the subsidy, the government will pay the subsidy directly to your insurer. And remember, if you do qualify for Equity-League Benefit Funds coverage again in the future, you will not be eligible for the subsidy.
No. The subsidy may only be applied toward premiums for coverage purchased through the Marketplaces.
The Health Insurance Marketplace holds its open enrollment period each fall, visit the HealthCare.gov Blog for actual dates.
